5 Shot Dead On South Side
CHICAGO (CBS) ―
Five people have been fatally shot on the South Side on Wednesday afternoon, a fire department source confirms.
Police
responded to reports of "multiple people shot" in the 7600 block of
South Rhodes Avenue, police News Affairs Officer Marcel Bright said.
The shooting took place inside a residence, he said.
CBS 2's
Kris Habermel reports the victims were all adults and it was possibly a
domestic incident. Police say area residents have nothing to worry
about, and the situation was contained to the home.
About 3:45
p.m. ambulances responded to 7607 S. Rhodes Ave., according to Fire
Media Affairs Asst. Director Eve Rodriguez. No one was transported to
hospitals.
Wednesday afternoon's shooting comes on the heels of a particularly
violent weekend in the city. Between Friday night and early Monday
morning, 36 people were shot in Chicago, nine fatally, and two people
were stabbed.
The beginning of the week saw continued violence.
Over Monday night, four people were killed and eight more injured in
seven separate incidents.
Tuesday night four people were shot; one of those victims died.
